What's New with the Memphis Chapter?

Our next meeting will be at the FedEx Express Global Operations Control Center, set for Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7:00pm. Members will be treated to a tour of FedEx's global airline dispatch center and introduced to the brand new corporate weather system. Click here for more details or click here for a printable map.

Have you checked out our online store? Proceeds from each purchase go back to the chapter to be used towards outreach efforts. See it here.

At our January meeting, the chapter membership unanimously approved a vote to move forward with becoming an American Meteorological Society/National Weather Assocation joint chapter. At our March meeting, President Jon Howell stated that a petition letter was being sent to the NWA for approval of chapterhood. Our petition has been approved and we are working towards a combined set of by-laws for the joint chapter.

Are you not on our mailing list, but want to get the latest news from the chapter delivered by e-mail?? Select the "Contact the Officers" link to the left and e-mail our Chapter Secretary and you'll be added!

We have had some fabulous presentations over the past couple of years, including a tour of the EMA's Emergency Operations Center and VIPER Mobile Command Center, a presentation on storm chasing with Dr. Mike Brown of Mississippi State's NOMISSIST program, a study of quasi-linear convective systems by Ron Przybylinski of St. Louis University, a study of the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons with Stacy Stewart from the National Hurricane Center, and a discussion on polygon warnings led by Dan McCarthy of the Storm Prediction Center

Do you have news to share with other members (weather-related or not)? Know of something that you want everyone to be aware of? This is the place for it! and it will be posted!
